Crofton Fusion Ti non-stick technology ceramic coating

Fusion Ti™ Technology

Crofton's proprietary Fusion Ti™ non-stick coating represents the next generation of ceramic cookware technology. By infusing titanium particles into a ceramic matrix, we've created a cooking surface that's both incredibly durable and completely non-toxic.

How Fusion Ti Works

Unlike traditional non-stick coatings that rely on synthetic polymers (like Teflon), Fusion Ti uses a sol-gel ceramic process enhanced with titanium dioxide nanoparticles. This creates a hard, glass-like surface that's:

  • Non-Reactive: Won't leach chemicals into your food, even at high temperatures
  • Heat Resistant: Safe up to 450°F without degrading or releasing fumes
  • Scratch Resistant: Titanium reinforcement provides 3x the durability of standard ceramic
  • Eco-Friendly: Water-based application process with zero VOC emissions

🌱 Environmental Impact: Fusion Ti production uses 60% less energy than traditional PTFE coating manufacturing and produces zero toxic byproducts.

Premium Enamel Coating

Our enameled cast iron cookware features a multi-layer porcelain enamel finish that transforms raw cast iron into a non-reactive, easy-to-clean cooking surface that rivals luxury brands.

The Enameling Process

Each piece undergoes a 5-step enameling process at temperatures exceeding 1400°F (760°C):

  1. Ground Coat: A dark base layer fused directly to the raw iron for maximum adhesion
  2. Multiple Finish Coats: 2-3 layers of colored porcelain enamel for durability and aesthetics
  3. High-Temperature Firing: Each layer is individually fired to create a glass-smooth surface
  4. Quality Inspection: Every piece is hand-inspected for imperfections
  5. Final Polishing: Edges and rim are ground smooth for comfortable handling

Non-Reactive Properties

The porcelain enamel coating makes Crofton cast iron completely non-reactive, meaning you can safely cook:

  • Acidic foods like tomato sauce, wine-based dishes, and citrus marinades
  • Vinegar-based preparations and pickled ingredients
  • Long-simmering stews and braises without metallic taste

Safety Note: Unlike bare cast iron, enameled pieces require no seasoning and won't leach iron into your food—ideal for those managing iron intake.

Understanding Chemical Safety

Why PFOA-Free Matters

PFOA (Perfluorooctanoic Acid) is a synthetic chemical previously used in manufacturing non-stick cookware. Studies have linked PFOA exposure to various health concerns, including thyroid disease, high cholesterol, and developmental issues in children.

Crofton's Commitment: All our ceramic and non-stick lines have never used PFOA in production. Our Fusion Ti technology uses natural ceramic materials that achieve non-stick performance without any fluorinated compounds.

PTFE-Free Ceramic Coating

PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene), commonly known as Teflon, can release toxic fumes when heated above 500°F. These fumes can cause flu-like symptoms in humans and can be fatal to pet birds.

Crofton's Alternative: Our ceramic coatings remain stable up to 850°F with no off-gassing. You can safely use high heat without health concerns—perfect for achieving restaurant-quality searing at home.

Lead & Cadmium Testing

Lead and Cadmium are heavy metals that can accumulate in the body over time, causing serious health issues including neurological damage (lead) and kidney disease (cadmium). Some imported cookware has been found to contain these metals in decorative glazes.

Crofton's Standards: Every production batch undergoes third-party testing for lead and cadmium. We maintain levels below 0.01 ppm (parts per million)—10 times stricter than FDA requirements. Test certificates are available upon request.

Commitment to Sustainability

Choosing Crofton means choosing cookware that's better for your family and the planet.

Eco-Friendly Manufacturing

  • Water-based ceramic coating application (no VOC solvents)
  • Energy-efficient firing process reduces carbon footprint by 40%
  • Minimal packaging using recycled and biodegradable materials
🌍

Longevity = Less Waste

  • Cast iron pieces can last generations with proper care
  • Fusion Ti coating outlasts traditional non-stick by 3-5 years
  • Fully recyclable at end of life (cast iron can be melted and reused)

Compared to traditional Teflon: Crofton's ceramic production generates 78% less CO₂ emissions, uses 65% less water, and produces zero toxic wastewater requiring special disposal.
